The infiltrators, identified as Mahabul Haque and Shahina Akhtar were apprehended near the international boundary and were subsequently pushed back to Bangladesh.
In a post on X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the arrest and said that police were on guard near the border. “2 Illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators nabbed and sent back. In an alert move, personnel of Assam police tracked and apprehended 2 Bangladeshi nationals near the International border.”
Earlier this month, six infiltrators, including two Bangladeshi women, were captured by Assam police and turned over to authorities in the neighbouring nation, the Assam CM had announced.
Since the unrest in Bangladesh began in August of this year, around 167 individuals have been detained for unauthorised entry into India and sent back to Bangladesh. The BSF has stepped up its surveillance along the 1,885-kilometer Indo-Bangladesh border in the Northeast since the turmoil in Bangladesh began.
In order to stop any unauthorised entry into the state, Assam Police is on high alert along the Indo-Bangladesh border, according to a previous statement made by Director General of Police G P Singh.
