Has The Myanmarese Rebel Group Arakan Army Seized And Occupied Parts Of Bangladesh?

In the wake of these reports, the big question that arises is whether Bangladesh's sovereignty itself is under some kind of a threat.
Dhaka is silent on the matter, but reports are stating that Arakan Army fighters have occupied parts of Bangladesh’s Teknaf region and have taken control of the stretch.
The stretch that is reported under the Myanmarese insurgent group’s control is a sensitive region that is close to the Rohingya refugee camps and Bangladesh’s strategic Saint Martin island.
In the wake of these reports, the big question that arises is whether Bangladesh’s sovereignty itself is under some kind of threat.
The Arakan Army is a highly potent militia and has engaged in a number of shootouts with Bangladesh troops in recent weeks. Reports said the Arakan Army has almost taken total control of Myanmar’ s Rakhine state and has now set it’s eyes on Bangladesh’s s borders areas along Myanmar.
This development is a cause of worry for the almost adhoc government in Dhaka headed by Mohammed Yunus. Dhaka’s relations with New Delhi too has soured of late since Sheikh Hasina’s ouster. As of now, Economist Yunus’ s administrative capability and statecraft is under test.
The Arakan Army had announced earlier that that they had captured the last Myanmar army outpost in the border town of Maungdaw, allowing the group to completely control the Myanmarese state of Rakhine.
Amid reports of the Arakan Army now possibly taking control of parts of Bangladesh’s Teknaf region, the Yunus government has suspended the movement of all boats between teknaf and Saint Martin Island off the Bangladeshi coast. The restrictions have been imposed on those traveling along the Naf River, which marks the border of southwestern Bangladesh and Northwestern Myanmar. Noteworthy is that Teknaf forms the southernmost point of mainland Bangladesh and shared the border with Myanmar opposite the town of Maungdaw.
Amidst all these development, one will have to wait and watch how things turn out in India’s highly populous neighbour.
