Nagaland celebrates its 62nd Statehood Day, CM Rio Highlights Challenges in Resolving Naga Issue, Reaffirms to Resolve ENPO’s Frontier Nagaland Demand

Nagaland is celebrating its 62nd Statehood Day today. A state-level function commemorating the occasion was held at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio wished the people of the state on the occasion, remembering the sacrifices of the state’s leaders who ensured its creation as the 16th state of the country on December 1, 1963.
CM Rio also urged all to strive to take the state to greater heights and realise their shared dream of a developed and prosperous Nagaland.
Addressing the state on the occasion, CM Neiphiu Rio said, “At the time of Statehood, Nagaland had just 3 districts- Kohima, Mokokchung, and Tuensang. Today, we celebrate the formation of the 17 district, Meluri, on November 2, 2024. This fulfilis a long-standing demand of the Pochury community and aligns with our policy of creating districts along tribal lines, recognizing the region’s mineral-rich potential.”
The Chief Minister said that the state government remains committed to inclusivity, especially in addressing the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO)’s demand for creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT).
In a big statement pertaining to the Naga political issue, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said that the formation of new NNPGs and internal divisions within such groups has posed as significant challenges in the government’s efforts to resolve the vexed issue.
He highlight his government’s efforts to find an amicable solution to the Naga issue. In this regard, Rio mentioned about the constitution of the Political Affairs Committee. Reiterating the government’s commitment to resolve the Naga political issue, CM Rio mentioned about his meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah last month to reiterate the government’s urgency.
The Nagaland Chief Minister also said that the recent press statements by the Chief Political Negotiator of NSCN (I-M) were too discussed during his meeting with the Union Home Minister.
