Manipur: Amid Rising Violence, Centre Sanctions Rs 104.66 Cr to Boost Healthcare in Hill Districts

The hill districts will get access to advanced medical services, including CT scans, MRIs, ICU care, and super-specialty treatments for the first time.
Amid a fresh spate of violence in Manipur since November 7, 2024, a ray of hope shines for the state’s hill regions with a major healthcare boost.
The Central government has sanctioned Rs 104.66 crore to enhance medical facilities in Chandel, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Senapati, and Tamenglong, bringing much-needed relief to these underserved areas, said Chief Minister N Biren Singh today.
Notably, these districts will get access to advanced medical services, including CT scans, MRIs, ICU care, and super-specialty treatments for the first time bringing critical healthcare closer to home for thousands.
The funding will be used to provide super-speciality and speciality healthcare services at key district hospitals and healthcare centres.
Here’s the detailed fund allocation:
- Rs 1,55,31,955 for super-speciality and assured speciality healthcare at the District Hospital in Chandel district.
- Rs 9,41,45,850 for super-speciality and assured speciality healthcare in Ukhrul district.
- Rs 6,16,40,316 for super-speciality healthcare at SDH Jiribam.
- Rs 12,15,41,902 for super-speciality and speciality care in remote and hill areas in Senapati district.
- Rs 11,95,22,169 for super-speciality and speciality healthcare in remote and hill areas in Tamenglong district.
CM N Biren Singh thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister JP Nadda and DoNER Minister J M Scindia for their support in developing Manipur.
Taking to X, Singh said, “For the first time, hill districts like Chandel, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Senapati, and Tamenglong will have access to advanced medical facilities like CT Scans, MRI, ICU services, and super-specialty care—bringing healthcare closer to home. Not to mention, the Churachandpur Medical College is already operational, transforming healthcare in the region. This recent sanction of ₹104.66 crore under PM-DevINE is a step towards equitable healthcare for all.
