Merciless: Cop Beats Up Poor Zomato Delivery Boy Over Minor Traffic Violation

Can the cop beat up someone over a traffic violation? This is what happened in Assam’s Guwahati when a cop assaulted a Cotton University student working as a Zomato delivery boy over a traffic violation.
The incident took place at the busy Fancy Bazar, where a officer-in-charge of the Panbazar police station, Bhargab Borbora was seen assaulting a Zomato food delivery boy.
The Zomato delivery boy identified as Gyandeep Hazarika, a student of Cotton University.
The incident that was captured on video went viral, sparking outrage from people who questioned the police personnel’s shocking behaviour in full public view.
As per reports, the delivery agent was riding in a “no entry” zone and had tried to escape despite being instructed to halt by the Police Security Officer (PSO).
It was then that the enraged OC got hold of the delivery boy and began assaulting him with slaps and punches in full public view while also threatening and abusing him. The repeated punches and threats by the police personnel to the delivery boy shocked the onlookers, and that is the moment when the incident was captured on video.
The incident and the resulting public furore have garnered swift response from the police authorities as the OC Bhargab Borbora has been suspended.
Assam DGP GP Singh took to social media and confirmed the suspension of the OC. The Assam DGP said, and I quote, “The behavior of Inspector Bhargav Borbora OC Panbazar is unacceptable. He is being placed under suspension with immediate effect, and a departmental enquiry has been ordered. CP Guwahati has been advised to post another officer immediately,” Singh said.
Meanwhile,the delivery boy Gyandeep Hazarika, was detained at the police till 11 pm before he was finally let off.
Following the incident, the students of Cotton State University have reacted sharply to the incident. The students demanded accountability, calling for stronger measures to prevent the misuse of power by law enforcement officers.
Who is Gyandeep Hazarika?
Gyandeep is a student of the Cotton State University in Guwahati. The Cotton University student works as a Zomato delivery boy apart from being a student to meet his daily expenses. Apart from being a food delivery boy, Gyandeep also does other odd jobs to sustain himself. Hailing from Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district, Gyandeep has a mother and a sister in his family, while his father has expired. Gyandeep works as a delivery boy in the evening hours after finishing his classes at the university’s economics department in the daytime hours. Gyandeep has been working as a food delivery boy for the past two months. Gyandeep lives in Guwahati with his sister.
