Will NEHU Crisis End Today? Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Says, Solution Likely…..

Will today bring an end to the crisis at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU)in Shillong, Meghalaya or will the protests continue?

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today said that a decision to resolve the ongoing crisis at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in Shillong may be taken today as the campus unrest enters its 9th day.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, CM Sangma expressed deep concern over the situation.

He said that he has been in constant touch with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and that the Centre is actively involved in resolving the issue.

“We are very concerned because the future of the students depends on it. I have been in continuous touch with different stakeholders including Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Last night, Minister Pradhan updated me about a possible resolution, and we hope to see a positive outcome today,” said CM Sangma.

While speculation grows that the Vice Chancellor may be sent on leave, there has been no official confirmation yet.

It may be mentioned here that the students are demanding the resignation of Vice Chancellor Prabha Shankar Shukla and other top officials, citing allegations of mismanagement, corruption, and administrative failure under his leadership.

The students remain resolute in their demand for the VC’s removal, and their protest continues to gain momentum.

The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), the apex students body representing major student organisations from across the region, has also written a letter to Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, urging immediate intervention.
