Ahead of the by-polls for five legislative constituencies scheduled for November 13, Assam government has suspended five Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers for failing to comply with directives issued by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO).
The officers, identified as Saroj Kumar Deka, Kabyashsree Dihingia, Jintu Sarma, Kongkan Jyoti Saikia, and Parishmita Dehingia, were all suspended for not joining their new postings as election officers.
The suspension followed a report from the CEO highlighting that the five officers, who had been transferred to new election-related assignments in late September 2024, refused to report for duty at their designated locations.
Jintu Sarma was to join in Majuli, Parishmita Dehingia in Sivasagar, Kongkan Jyoti Saikia in Barpeta, Kabyashree Dihingia in Dima Hasao, and Saroj Kumar Deka was placed under the Election Department for future posting.
Despite the government’s orders, none of the officers complied, prompting the Personnel Department to take immediate action. The five officers have been suspended under Rule 6(1) of the Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1964, effective immediately.
