Mizoram: S Hiphei resigns as Assembly Speaker, MLA; quits Congress, joins BJP

In yet another blow to the Congress in Mizoram ahead of the November 28 Assembly elections in the State, Mizoram Speaker S Hiphei has resigned as Mizoram Speaker and MLA.

In yet another blow to the Congress in Mizoram ahead of the November 28 Assembly elections in the State, Mizoram Speaker S Hiphei has resigned as Mizoram Speaker and MLA.

Hiphei submitted his resignation to Deputy speaker R Lalrinawmna and joined the BJP soon after in a small function organised by the party.

S Hiphei was in the candidates list of the Congress for the upcoming Assembly elections in the State but his name was yet to be cleared by the Mizoram Congress.

With Hiphei’s resignation, the number of Congress MLAs to have quit and defected to other parties have risen to 4.

Mizoram goes to polls for its 40-member Assembly seats on November 28.
