Meghalaya: NEHU Introduces Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP)

The course aims to produce passionate, well-qualified teachers adept in content, pedagogy, and values.

The North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has introduced the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), which aims to develop highly proficient teachers who can provide developmentally appropriate education at all levels of schooling.

Cabinet Minister AL Hek, the Chief Guest at the induction program for the B.A., B.Ed, and B.Sc., B.Ed students for the 2024-25 academic year, praised the initiative, which is supported by the Ministry of Education. He highlighted the program’s potential to produce not only excellent teachers but also responsible citizens.

This four-year program offers a dual-major bachelor’s degree, combining Education with specialized subjects such as language, social sciences, sciences, and mathematics. Following the National Education Policy 2020, the program promotes flexibility, multilingualism, and regional languages, enabling students to take an interdisciplinary approach based on their interests. The course aims to produce passionate, well-qualified teachers adept in content, pedagogy, and values.

NEHU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, emphasized that the program marks a significant moment for teacher education in the region.

The ITEP is designed for secondary-stage specialization (grades 9-12), with a multidisciplinary focus on vocational education and computational thinking.
