Following a fierce encounter at Pongchau village, Special Forces from the Indian Army have joined the mission to wipe out militancy from the area.
Security forces have intensified their operations against NSCN (K-YA) militants in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh after a fierce encounter with a heavily armed group of militants on Friday night. The encounter took place at Pongchau village, involving around 30 members of the militant outfit.
Top police officials confirmed that they have intercepted radio communications between the militant group and their higher command in Myanmar. According to the intercepts, two militants who sustained serious injuries in the firefight have died, while another remains critically injured.
To strengthen the ongoing counter-insurgency operations, Special Forces units from the Indian Army’s 21 Para and 11 Para have joined the mission to track down the militants. The security forces are determined to wipe out the insurgency from the region.
Officials also revealed that the militants were planning to kidnap prominent individuals from the village to negotiate the release of senior cadre Botai Wangsu, who was recently arrested in Dimapur. Wangsu, a native of Longkhaw village in Longding, was leading the outfit’s activities, including kidnappings and extortion in the district. His arrest has dealt a significant blow to the NSCN (K-YA), making the group desperate to secure his release.
The ongoing operations reflect the army’s commitment to eliminating insurgency and restoring peace in the region.
