Nagaland’s first Paralympian, Hokato Hotozhe Sema, returned home to a rousing welcome after winning a bronze medal in the Paris Paralympics 2024 and etching his name in history books.
Hokato was accorded a befitting welcome by various civil societies including student organisations at Dimapur airport today.
Hokato Hotozhe Sema won the bronze medal in the men’s shot put F57 event at the Paralympics 2024, with a throw of 14.65 metres, which is also his personal best. He is currently employed as a havildar in the 9 Assam Regiment.
Hokato’s life took a drastic turn in 2002 when he lost his leg during an operation at the Line of Control due to a landmine blast. He did not let the adversity deter him. Instead, he showed remarkable determination and perseverance, trained hard and won Bronze medal for India in the recently held Paris Paralympics 2024.
Some of Hokato’s achievements include a silver medal in the Morocco Grand Prix in 2022 and bronze in the shot put F-56/57 category event at the 2022 Asian Para Games in China.
Hokato also finished fourth in the World Championship earlier this year.
