"Whatever the reason was, I quit the party and was with TMC for two and a half years. I am happy to return home (Congress party)," said Bora.

After spending a little over 28 months in Trinamool Congress (TMC) as the Assam TMC President, Ripun Bora is back to his old party, the Congress.

Bora officially returned to the party today.

Speaking to the media, Ripun Bora expressed his happiness rejoining the Congress party, describing it as a “homecoming.”

Bora, who had left Congress to join the TMC said, “Whatever the reason was, I quit the party and was with TMC for two and a half years. I am really glad that I am back to Congress.”

Bora’s statement that no other opposition party has the capability to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state is noteworthy.

His return to Congress is seen as a major boost for the party in Assam, as it aims to strengthen its position in the region ahead of Assembly elections scheduled for 2026.

Ripun Bora had resigned from TMC on September 1, claiming that the people of northeastern view it as a regional party of West Bengal and are not willing to accept it as their own.

It needs to be mentioned here that
Bora was the President of Assam Congress from 2016 to 2021 when he resigned from Congress in 2021 owning moral responsibility for the party’s poor show in the state assembly elections and joined TCM in April 2022.

He resigned from TMC on September 1, 2024 claiming that the people of northeastern view it as a regional party of West Bengal and are not willing to accept it as their own.
