Fresh violence erupted in Manipur this morning as armed men launched a targeted attack on civilian areas in Bishnupur district. The incident occurred in Tronglaobi, where the assailants fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) from the hills, resulting in significant damage to private property.
According to reports, the RPG strike damaged at least two houses, though fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far. The attack prompted a swift response from security forces, who engaged in intense crossfire with the armed men. As of the latest updates, heavy firing between the forces and the attackers is still ongoing.
It is to be mentioned that this latest incident follows a recent escalation in violence in Manipur. Just days earlier, on 2nd September, intermittent firing broke out along the fringe areas in Koutruk, Sekmai and Sinam Khul. Notably, Koutruk village in Imphal West was targeted by bomb attacks carried out using high-tech drones. That attack resulted in the death of a civilian, further exacerbating the tense situation in the region.
Attacks were also reported from Yainingpokpi in Imphal West from the hillside along the Imphal-Ukhrul road. Furthermore, at least 2 people were killed and several others, including a police commando, were injured after a gunfight broke out near Koutruk in Kangchup region in the Imphal West district of Manipur on 1st September.
Authorities have yet to provide further details on the current status of the ongoing firefight, but the situation remains fluid. Security forces are actively working to contain the violence and restore order in the affected areas.
