In the wake of communal violence that erupted in Durgapur village under Ranirbazar police station following the discovery of a broken Kali idol, Congress leaders have accused the ruling BJP of orchestrating the unrest for political gain.
Addressing a press conference on Monday evening at the Congress headquarters in Agartala, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman and Tripura Pradesh Congress state president Asish Kumar Saha condemned the violence, labeling it as a “well-planned conspiracy” aimed at polarizing the public.
“This is a well planned attack, carried out to create chaos in the state,” Roy Barman said.
Roy Barman stated that the Congress party, along with the people of Tripura, would not allow such divisive tactics to succeed.
He strongly criticized the state police, accusing them of being complicit in the violence by turning into “slaves of the ruling party.”
Roy Barman a former Minister called on the Director General of Police (DGP) to take immediate action against the perpetrators, urging the police to protect the dignity of the khaki uniform and restore law and order in the state.
Saha echoed these sentiments, alleging that the state was descending into “jungle raj” under the BJP’s rule.
He emphasized that the Congress party would continue to fight against such attempts to destabilize the state and vowed to stand with the people in these challenging times.
The violence in Durgapur, which began after reports of the desecration of a Hindu goddess Kali idol, has sparked widespread unrest in the region.
Several houses were looted and set ablaze, along with vehicles, causing significant property damage and heightening communal tensions.
Senior police officials and district administration have since imposed prohibitory orders and stationed additional forces in the area to prevent further violence.
Despite these measures, Congress leaders have expressed deep concerns over the role of law enforcement and the state government’s handling of the situation, calling for accountability and swift justice for those affected by the violence.
