"The government is trying to get our people into their party with that money obtained from drugs, illegal coal mining and manipulation of contracts," said Pala.

Meghalaya Congress president Vincent H Pala has made a big allegation against the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma-led ruling NPP.

Amid speculations that three congress MLAs- Gabriel Wahlang, Charles Marngar, and Celestine Lyngdoh are considering a shift to the ruling National People’s Party (NPP), Pala alleged that the current government is corrupted and is trying to entice the opposition MLAs with money obtained from drugs, illegal coal mining and manipulation of contracts.

“The current government is not like the previous one; it is arrogant, corrupted and bent on using illicit funds to overthrow other political parties. The government is trying to get our people into their party with that money, but we appeal our party leaders not to fall into the trap,” said Pala.

Pala who along with Tura Lok Sabha MP Saleng Sangma and other Congress leaders held a meeting to discuss the possible desertion by MLAs said that the NPP has offered schemes and grants to the Congress MLAs, but they have not yet made a final decision.

Pala also warned of stern action against any legislators planning to leave the party.

“We did not spare anyone who left the party. The party has a set of rules and a set of practices. It always maintains the same form. So we have warned the MLAs that whatever we have done before, the same action will be taken against them,” Pala added.
