Former Meghalaya CM Salseng C. Marak Passes Away

Marak had been unwell and was hospitalized in Tura Civil Hospital for the past two weeks. He passed away at 10 AM today.

Former Meghalaya Chief Minister Salseng C. Marak passed away this morning at the age of 83.

Sources confirmed that Marak had been unwell and was hospitalized in Tura Civil Hospital for the past two weeks. He passed away at approximately 10 AM today.

Born in 1941 and a graduate from Kolkata’s Scottish Church College, Marak, served as the state’s Chief Minister from 1993 to 1998. He was a long-serving legislator from the Resubelpara constituency, where he last contested and won in 2013.  A significant figure in Meghalaya’s political landscape, Marak’s passing away marks the close of a significant chapter in Meghalaya’s political history.

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma conveyed his condolences on social media, mourning the loss of the veteran leader.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the demise of former CM Salseng C Marak. His contributions to Meghalaya’s development will always be remembered. My condolences to his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.” the tweet read.
