Doctors at SMCH staged a sit-in protest in the hospital premises holding placards and vocally expressing their frustrations.
Doctors at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) in Assam’s Cachar district who have been protesting against the brutal rape and murder of a female doctor at Radha Gobinda Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, have intensified their protest, calling for urgent safety measures.
In response to yesterday’s mob attack on the doctors at the Radha Gobinda Kar Medical College and Hospital during their protest against the rape and murder of the 31-year-old doctor, the SMCH doctors expressed deep dismay over the increasing threats to their own safety, despite their dedicated efforts to save lives.
On the occasion of the nation’s 78th Independence Day, doctors at SMCH staged a sit-in protest in the hospital premises holding placards and vocally expressing their frustrations.
The protestors chanted slogans, creating a strong presence within the hospital premises, to draw attention to their concerns.
To address their safety concerns, the doctors called on SMCH authorities to install CCTV cameras throughout the hospital and to deploy additional security personnel immediately.
They said that these measures are crucial for ensuring their safety and preventing such tragic incidents in the future.
They lamented that minor issues are being used as a pretext to target doctors, which they find deeply troubling.
They demanded justice for the victim doctor and called for the punishment of the culprits.
Additionally, they emphasised that similar incidents have been reported across the country, yet no lasting solutions have been put in place.
