ANSU called off the bandh after the state government, the NES and Nyshi Legislative Forum requested them to take up their issues with the state government after Independence Day
The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) has called off its proposed 36-hour bandh called in Itanagar, which was supposed to start today. The bandh was called because of the state government’s alleged failure to fulfil its demands including the repeal of the Arunachal Pradesh District Based Entrepreneur and Professional (Incentive Development and Promotion) Act, 2015.
The apex student body of the Nyishi community decided to call off the bandh after the state government, the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) and Nyshi Legislative Forum requested it to take up their issues with the state government after Independence Day.
Speaking to media persons, ANSU president Nabam Dodum said, “After holding multiple meetings with the NES and Nyshi Legislative Forum, they informed us that they would meet with Chief Minister Pema Khandu to discuss the relevant issues. They requested us to bring up all of our unresolved issues with the state government through them by August 15. Therefore, we decided to call off the bandh.”
On Sunday, Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Mama Natung urged ANSU not to go ahead with their bandh just before Independence Day, stating that the government has swiftly initiated dialogue with their leadership.
Later, NES engaged with ANSU to facilitate a peaceful resolution and avoid disruption in the state after the Home Minister requested that it do so.
The key demands of ANSU include:
The immediate repeal of the Arunachal Pradesh District Based Entrepreneur and Professional (Incentive Development and Promotion) Act, 2015.
Revamping and reintegrating the decaying schools across the state.
The immediate suspension and reversion of Lham Tashi, OSD to the Chief Minister, and the suspension of Kirli Padu, SP APPS (former CSLO), and Moyir Basar Kamdak, APPS (former Deputy Superintendent of Police cum SSO), for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to frame members of the ANSU.
Earlier, ANSU had put forward a 10-point charter of demands, which was later reduced to three key points.
However, ANSU President Nabam Dodum stated that since the government has failed to address these three points, all ten original demands now need to be fulfilled.
