Arunachal Home Minister Mama Natung called on the Nyishi Elite Society to engage with ANSU to facilitate a peaceful resolution and avoid disruption in the state

In light of ANSU’s announcement of a 36-hour bandh scheduled for August 12-13, 2024, Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Mama Natung, addressed the media today, urging ANSU not to go ahead with their Bandh just before Independence Day, stating that the government has swiftly initiated dialogue with their leadership.

“Independence Day is a day of happiness for the entire country. If there is a bandh on Independence Day, it will not be good for Arunachal Pradesh.”

Natung said urging ANSU to reconsider their bandh call.

He also called on the Nyishi elite society to engage with ANSU to facilitate a peaceful resolution and avoid disruption in the state.

The Home Minister informed that the government has already agreed to look into the two key demands raised by ANSU, namely, repeal of the Arunachal Pradesh District Based Entrepreneur and Professional (Incentive Development and Promotion) Act, 2015, and the revamping of government schools through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to address the declining condition of schools in the state.

Natung assured that the government is committed to reviewing and amending the Entrepreneur and Professional Development and Promotion Act 2015 Act, based on recommendations from an existing committee.

He further said that the proposed amendments will be presented to both the state cabinet and assembly, with input from ANSU and other community-based organizations (CBOs) to ensure comprehensive stakeholder participation.

On the issue of education, Natung stated that the government is already making strides toward improving the state’s education system. The proposed Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model aims to address the deteriorating condition of schools by involving private entities in the management and development of educational institutions.

Earlier on August 10, ANSU President Nabam Dodum said “The bandh has been called as the Arunachal government failed to fulfil our demands.”

The key demands of ANSU include:

The immediate repeal of the Arunachal Pradesh District Based Entrepreneur and Professional (Incentive Development and Promotion) Act, 2015.

Revamping and reintegrating the decaying schools across the state.

The immediate suspension and reversion of Lham Tashi, OSD to the Chief Minister, and the suspension of Kirli Padu, SP APPS (former CSLO), and Moyir Basar Kamdak, APPS (former Deputy Superintendent of Police cum SSO), for their alleged involvement in a conspiracy to frame members of the ANSU.
