First Meeting of House Committee to Detect Illegal Immigrants in Manipur Soon: Committee Chair Awangbow Newmai

The House Committee set up by Manipur Assembly will investigate the "influx of illegal immigrants and unnatural growth of new villages" in Manipur
Manipur Water Resource Minister Awangbow Newmai who is heading the House Committee set up by the state Assembly to detect and deport illegal immigrants in Manipur today said that the first meeting of the Committee would be held soon.
It is after the meeting that the 12-member committee will decide on the steps to be taken to detect and then deport illegal migrants living in Manipur.
Speaking to Northeast Live on the sidelines of Har Ghar Tiranga event in Imphal today, New mai said, “We will first have the meeting soon. Once the meeting is held, we will decide how to go about the issue.
There is an abnormal growth in population after the problems in Myanmar. The Assembly formed the House Committee to look into it”.
The Manipur Assembly had on August 6 resolved to form a House Committee to investigate the “influx of illegal immigrants and unnatural growth of new villages” in Manipur.
The inquiry committee was established with the consensus of the House under Rule 305A (1) of the Assembly’s Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business.
Other members of the committee are Minister of Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister, Letpao Haokip, Minister of Public Health Engineering Department, Consumer Affairs L Susindro, Education Minister Th. Basanta Kumar, MLA Letpao Haokip MLA Dinganglung Gangmei, MLA K. Meghachandra, MLA Th. Lokeshwar, MLA Abdul Nasir, MLA Leishiyo Keishing, MLA Surjakumar Okram, MLA K. Ibomcha, and MLA Th. Shanti.
It needs to be mentioned here that Letpao Haokip has objected to him being included in the House Committee without his knowledge or consent.
