One Arrested in Connection with Mutilated Bodies case in Meghalaya

East Jaintia Hills Police on 11th July arrested a person in connection with the brutal killing of 4 individuals, whose bodies were recovered from Umpleng in East Jaintia Hills District on July 6.

The Police has not disclosed the identity of the arrested person yet.

As per the official press release, investigation is ongoing to trace and arrest other persons involved in the case.

The Press Release stated, “In connection with the recent discoveries of the dead bodies of 4(four) persons in Umpleng area on the 6th July 2024, suspected to be have been murdered, a case was registered vide Khliehriat PS Case No. 49(07)2024 u/s 103/3(5) BNS, and during the course of investigation, 1(one) person was arrested. The details of the arrested person are not being disclosed in the interest of the investigation. Investigation is ongoing to trace and to arrest the other person(s) involved in the case.”

The four bodies were found with their hands and feet tied and cut marks on the neck.

This incident had raised questions about the law and order situation in the state as this incident came within months of three charred bodies found in unmarked shallow graves in East Garo Hills in mid April this year.
