First Published: 7th July, 2024 9:50 IST

Notably, this will be Rahul Gandhi's third visit to the state. Earlier, he visited the state twice since the outbreak of the violence on May 3 last year.

Congress leader and Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi will visit Manipur tomorrow.

During his visit, he will meet the violence-affected people in different districts.

According to reports, Gandhi would take a flight from Delhi to Silchar, and from there would visit Jiribam district first where fresh violence occurred on June 6. He will then return to Imphal and then go to Churachandpur by road.

Gandhi will visit some relief camps in Moirang, Bishnupur district and also meet Governor Anusuiya Uikey in Imphal.

Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Manipur comes just a few days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha on July 2 was disrupted by the opposition.

Throughout PM Modi’s two-hour speech, Gandhi-led opposition politicians chanted, “Give justice to Manipur.” Gandhi himself charged that the NDA administration was pressuring Manipur into “civil war” in his first speech as the opposition leader.

Notably, this will be Rahul Gandhi’s third visit to the state and first as the leader of the opposition. Earlier, he visited the state twice since the outbreak of the violence on May 3 last year.

The first time he visited the state was in June last year and batted for peace in the trouble-torn state and appealed every section of the society to come forward and overcome this turmoil.

The second time he visited the state was when he began his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ from the state ahead of the Lok Sabha polls on January 14 this year.
