Search operation to locate the missing child to continue, assures Chief Minister Sarma
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today visited the Jyotinagar area of Guwahati, where an 8-year-old boy was washed away in floodwaters after falling into an open drain on Thursday night.
Accompanied by Guwahati commissioner of police Diganta Barah and city Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Chief Minister Sarma assessed the situation.
Chief Minister Sarma also met the victim’s parents and appealed to them to remain strong.
“I know this is a tough situation, but you will have to remain strong for your second child. What has happened cannot be undone now. But if you break down, then it will affect your second child,” Chief Minister Sarma said while consoling the grieving parents.
“Go home and take some rest. The search party will continue with the search operations, and I assure you that the operations will not stop until your missing child is found,” Chief Minister Sarma added.
The drain in which the 8-year-old fell is connected to the Brahmaputra via the Bharalu River.
Later, speaking to the media, Chief Minister Sarma informed us that he would visit the deceased’s residence the day after tomorrow and extend every possible help to the bereaved family.
“I have requested the parents to go home and get some rest as they have to take care of their second child as well,” Chief Minister Sarma said.
“Financial assistance of any amount cannot bring back their child if we consider he is dead by now. I will visit their residence the day after tomorrow and will see what kind of assistance we can provide them, especially regarding the schooling and education of their second child,” Chief Minister Sarma added.
Chief Minister Sarma further said that it was almost impossible for the 8-year-old to survive the ordeal for over 48 hours. Hence, the primary aim of the search operation now was to locate the child’s body, hand it over to the family, and provide closure to the incident.
