Harsh Kumar Jain, the Indian Ambassador-designate to the Philippines met Meghalaya Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh in Shillong on Friday

Good news for all those students and professionals from Meghalaya who are planning to go abroad, particularly to the Philippines.

Meghalaya tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh who hosted Harsh Kumar Jain, the Indian Ambassador-designate to Ukraine and soon-to-be Ambassador to the Philippines, on Friday in Shillong, discussed a slew of issues including opportunities for medical students and professionals from Meghalaya planning to study or work in the Philippines.

The Meghalaya government also proposed a musical exchange programme with the Indian Embassy in the Philippines. The move is being considered to benefit the students from the state.

Speaking to the media after the meeting with Harsh Kumar Jain, Paul Lyngdoh informed that the key proposal discussed was a musical exchange programme to help Meghalaya’s young musicians go global and potential collaborations in the health sector, including opportunities for medical students and professionals from Meghalaya.

Lyngdoh added that Harsh Kumar Jain has promised to visit Meghalaya more frequently to strengthen the ties.

It may be mentioned that the Philippines is likely to see a rise in the number of Indian students heading to the country for medical studies after it recently made legislative changes, opening its doors for foreign students to practice medicine.

Harsh Kumar Jain, while speaking to the media, said that he is committed to supporting students from the region who are willing to study abroad and will also encourage them to stay in contact with the Embassy in Manila.

This visit marks a significant step towards enhancing cultural and educational ties between Northeast India and the Philippines under the Act East policy.
