Electricity and mobile towers have been disconnected to prevent untoward incidents in flooded areas of both Imphal East and West.
Schools in Manipur to remain shut till tomorrow due to the prevailing situation of floods and incessant rainfall.
Schools in the state have been shut since July 3. The government has extended the public holiday for offices and businesses till today due to the continuing flood condition.
Floodwaters continue to inundate more than 1000 houses in Singjamei, Kakwa, Keirao, and parts of Canchipur in Imphal West district, while another 500 houses are submerged in Kshetrigao, Thambal Khong, Kongpal, and parts of Irong in Imphal East district.
In the capital Imphal, heavy rainfall since last evening has increased the water levels of major rivers in the capital.
Another breach occurred at the Kongba River around 8:30 PM last evening.
Earlier, yesterday a breach in the same river was restored under the initiative of Forest Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh. However, this new breach has appeared near the previous breach sites at Bashikhong under Imphal East.
As of now, breaches in the Nambol River under Bishnupur district have been restored, and parts of breaches in the Imphal River at Singjamei have also been repaired.
Teams including the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and volunteers are distributing food packages in affected areas.
Electricity and mobile towers have been disconnected to prevent untoward incidents in flooded areas of both Imphal East and West.
