Manipur CM Reaffirms Commitment to Implement NRC with 1961 as Base Year to Protect Indigenous People

CM N Biren Singh said that Nagaland has started screening illegal migrants and established a base year of 1963 for four communities and 1940 for another community.

Manipur Chief Minister Biren Singh has reaffirmed the State government’s commitment to implement NRC, with 1961 as the base year, to protect the indigenous people of the state.

Taking to X, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that neighboring states Nagaland and Mizoram have initiated actions to protect the indigenous people in their respective states.

He added Nagaland has started screening illegal migrants and established a base year of 1963 for four communities and 1940 for another community.

Chief Minister Biren Singh said, similarly, Mizoram has set 1951 as the base year for land purchase within the state. He added these actions by the neighbouring states are a big step towards protecting the indigenous people in the region.

“The neighboring state of Nagaland has also started screening illegal migrants and established a base year of 1963 for four communities and 1940 for one community. Similarly, the neighboring state of Mizoram has set 1951 as the base year for land purchases within the state. These actions taken by our neighboring states is a big step in our efforts to protect the indigenous people in the region. Our base year is 1961,” CM N Biren Singh posted on X.
