Arunachal JNV ragging horror: State Human Rights Commission files suo moto case, issues notices to Chief Secy, Changlang SP

Both the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary and the Changlang SP have been instructed to file the respective action taken reports within 15 days.

The Arunachal Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) has taken serious cognizance of the ragging horror at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Bordumsa Sub-Division of eastern Arunachal’s Changlang district.

Taking strong exception of the incident in the school, the Commission has registered a suo moto case and has also issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh and the Superintendent of Police, Changlang.

Both the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Secretary and the Changlang SP have been instructed to file the respective action taken reports within 15 days.

In an exclusive conversation with Northeast Live, Bamang Tago, Member, APSHRC informed, “Based on social media reports, the Commission has taken cognizance of the matter and we have registered a case. Accordingly we have served notices to the concerned authorities and also to the SP of the concerned district to submit detailed reports of the incident. After that we will see what had happened. We have taken the matter very seriously because ragging is an abuse of human rights. So we have given a notice for submission of the reports within 15 days.”

Bamang Tago, Member, APSHRC further said, “The incident was really very unfortunate and that is why we have taken it seriously. This should not have happened because there is a clear cut Supreme Court directives and guidelines against ragging. So there should not be any ragging in universities or other educational institutions. Those institutions whether government or private must maintain the directives. After we get the report we will make our recommendations to the concerned authorities.”

As many as 24 students were allegedly mercilessly beaten by their seniors injuring them severely at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in Bordumsa yesterday afternoon.

As per inputs, when the 24 boarders went for lunch at around 2 pm after their school was over, a group of 5 students of 11th standard allegedly tortured them physically and mentally.Principal of the school, Rajiv Ranjan said that all 5 accused students have been suspended for their heinous acts as per the decision of a disciplinary committee and they will be handed over to their parents today.
