Around 60 houses have been washed away, over 10,000 people have been affected by the floods and landslides.

The situation continues to be critical in the Himalayan state of Sikkim. Around 2000 tourists and drivers are still stranded in Sikkim, which has been hit by heavy rains and landslides.

The North Sikkim district still continues to remain cut off from the rest of the state as a road connecting Mangan district with other districts washed away after a landslide.

While speaking to Northeast Live, Chief Engineer of Roads and Bridges Department, KC Sharma said that the roads and bridges department of Sikkim is putting continuous efforts to reconnect the highway.

The incessant rain triggered fresh landslides along NH-10, disrupting Sikkim’s connectivity with north Bengal.

The rescue operation for tourists which was supposed to begin today had to be cancelled due to bad weather.

Electricity and mobile connectivity has also been totally disrupted in most parts of North Sikkim. While around 60 houses have been washed away, over 10,000 people have been affected by the floods and landslides.

National Highway 310 from Tashi view point in Gangtok is also disrupted in many areas due to landslides caused by heavy rain.
