New Arunachal Home Minister Mama Natung says will ensure peace for state’s development

Natung who has been assigned the key Home portfolio said that without peace development and progress of the frontier state cannot be achieved

Soon after assuming charge as the new Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Mama Natung on Saturday said that he will ensure that there is peace in the state as peace is critical for development and for the state to progress.

Natung who has been assigned the key portfolio by Chief Minister Pema Khandu said, “The Chief Minister has given me a big responsibility. I will fully try that there is no law and order problems in our state, will work together with officials of the department. During my previous tenure as a minister, I used to tell the public that where there is peace, there is development.

For development to happen peace is of utmost necessity. For tourism to boom, investors to come to our state, there has to be peace. If people do not maintain peace in our state, no investors from outside will come here, tourists will not opt to come here.

So I want to appeal to every citizen of our state that we have to maintain peace at any cost.”

Besides, Natung in a significant statement maintained that the government shall always stick to the way of resolving issue through dialogues. The Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister said this in reference to series of protests and demonstrations that has happened in the state in the recent past.

He said, “You have seen that in Arunachal Pradesh agitations keep on happening. But there is an alternate to this, instead of taking to the streets things can be resolved through dialogue also. There can be an understanding after that. We will always work in that direction.”

Mama Natung also sounded caution about the incidents of drugs among the youths in the state.

He said, “The pace at which the drug peddlers and drug smugglers are ruining our youths, by supplying them narcotics, that has to end.”

Worth mentioning Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed a number of law and order situation especially in the insurgency infested Tirap Changlang and Longding (TCL) region which is still under the ambit of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

Mama Natung had previously served as the Minister of Forests and Environment in the previous Pema Khandu cabinet and had made name for himself by initiating the Air Gun Surrender Abhiyan.
The ‘Airgun Surrender Abhiyan’, a wildlife conservation initiative by the Arunachal Pradesh forest department, has received international recognition at the UNESCO’s International Conference on Biosphere Reserves at Sabah in Malaysia.
The Abhiyan- a brainchild of then Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Mama Natung, was launched in March 2021 to discourage hunting and raise awareness about the detrimental effects of wildlife killing.
