To serve people, I don’t need to hold a position: Krishna Kumari Rai after resigning as SKM MLA from Namchi Singithang

Krishna Kumari Rai, the leader of the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) and wife of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang who resigned from her post as a legislator for Namchi Singithang constituency yesterday said that she does not require a position to serve the people of the state.

She said that she will continue to help people in her own capacity.

After resigning from her post, Krishna Kumari Rai in a message to the public said, ” I have officially submitted my resignation from the 11-Namchi Singithang Constituency. I had never imagined that I would enter electoral politics so soon, and to garner the overwhelming support of everyone was beyond my imagination, for which I am forever grateful. I have always viewed politics as a social activity, and the reason I entered the election was that. I have always been a firm believer that, in order to serve the people, I do not need to hold a position. I have been helping and will continue to help in my own capacity.”

Although she resigned from her position but promised to keep all of the promises, she made to the people of Namchi Singithang.

“I promise my voters from 11 Namchi Singithang that I will always be there whenever you need me and will continue to serve the people. Your trust and support will never go in vain. I am a daughter of Namchi and will remain so forever, committed to the welfare and progress of our community. Though I step down from my official role, my dedication to our shared dreams and aspirations remains steadfast. Together, we have achieved much, and together, we will achieve even more,” she said.

She also assured that the new candidate for the Namchi Singithang constituency will be a fully committed and dedicated person who will work for the constituency’s people.

She thanked the people of the constituency for their unwavering support and faith in her.

Krishna Kumari Rai had taken oath on June 12 along with the other MLAs.

CM PS Tamang in a statement issued yesterday, said that Rai resigned as per the party directive for the welfare of the party and to keep up the party principles.

Certain political observers of the state are saying that Krishna Rai resigned to steer clear of any allegations on the lines of dynastic or family politics because speculations are rife that Tamang’s son Aditya might contest from the Soreng seat after his father vacates it.

Aditya had won the seat once.

CM Tamang will have to resign from either the Soreng or the Rhenock seat in the coming days.
He had won both the seats in the recently concluded polls.

This means Sikkim will see by-polls in two seats, the Namchi Singithang seat and either of the Soreng or Rhenock seat, whichever the Chief Minister vacates.
