Shopkeeper shot after brawl in Aizawl, accused arrested

Sensation prevailed in the Mizoram capital, Aizawl, today after a shopkeeper was shot in broad daylight.
The incident took place around noon today, at the Dawrpui locality, near Aizawl Mosque.
After initial investigation, the police confirmed that 32 year old Lalnunsanga, a resident of Armed Veng South locality had an altercation with the shopkeeper identified as Hayder Ali, of Kadaigul in Assam’s Karimganj district currently residing at Dawrpui locality. Lalnunsanga then shot Hayder Ali with a 0.22 Pistol causing injury to the right foot.
Lalnunsanga was arrested and the locally made 0.22 Pistol, loaded with two live ammunition was seized from his possession. He stated that the said gun was given to him by one Muanpuia of Manipur for repairing.
According to the police, the accused who is a drug addict seemed to be under the influence of drugs.
He is being interrogated for any backward and forwarded links. Swabbing of the hands of the accused for presence of gun powder was also done.
Further, the Civil Hospital Aizawl, where the victim was admitted for treatment, has been requisitioned to furnish an injury report in respect of the victim, and the same is being awaited. A case under appropriate sections of law is being registered in this regard.
