Sangma also believes that VPP MP from the Shillong parliamentary constituency Ricky AJ Syngkon will also back him in the Parliament regarding the ILP demand.

The demand for Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya is expected to gain momentum as newly elected Congress MP from the Tura Lok Sabha constituency Saleng A Sangma has decided to raise the matter in the Parliament and flag the people’s aspirations in the temple of democracy.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Saleng A Sangma who has been elected as an MP for the first time from the Tura Lok Sabha seat, also seemed determined to press for other issues including unemployment, ensuring that benefits of government aided schemes reach the needy.

Asked about his response on whether he thinks that the Parliament will give a nod to implementation of ILP in Meghalaya after he raises the issue in the House, Saleng A Sangma said, “We have got the issues pertaining to our ILP, our language and other issues, so we will definitely try. I am not saying that we are going to get it tomorrow or day after tomorrow, but from our side we will definitely move these, especially on the floor of the House.”

Sangma also believes that VPP MP from the Shillong parliamentary constituency Ricky AJ Syngkon will also back him in the Parliament regarding the ILP demand. He said, “Moreover I believe the MP from VPP from Shillong along with me, we both side by side will take up the matter.”

Speaking about his other priorities as an MP, Saleng A Sangma said, “We have got lots of educated unemployment, uneducated employment, those will be the challenges and moreover the health issue also. Now you see any centrally sponsored scheme and then even by the state also, it’s not doing well. So I think we have to look into it on how to go about and how to look into the matter seriously. Then only people from the BPL families and villages can be addressed seriously, those things we will be definitely looking into.”

Asked who will succeed him in the Gambegre constituency as an MLA, he said, “We will discuss with our leaders from my constituency. Until and unless I take a decision with my people, I won’t talk about it. My people trust in me and I trust my people. I will discuss with my people regarding who should be the candidate in my constituency and other leaders of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee.”
