The verdict on the fate of the 10 candidates contesting from two seats in Meghalaya - namely the Shillong Parliamentary seat and the Tura Parliamentary seat will be out tomorrow

Just a day ahead of the announcement of the results for the Lok Sabha elections, the NPP has exuded confidence of winning both the Parliamentary seats in Meghalaya.

Speaking to Northeast Live, NPP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar said that it will be closely fought contest in the Shillong constituency, while he expressed hope that Agatha Sangma will win from Tura.

Dhar said, “The fight is triangular, neck to neck (in Shillong) frankly speaking. But we are still hoping to win. In Tura it seems to be a tough fight but we are still ahead.”

NPP MLA Santa Merry Shylla also believes that NPP will be able to put up a good show in both the seats.
She said, ” Of course there is ups and downs in elections, but still then I am not giving up hopes. I still hope both the ladies, our women (Ampareen Lyngdoh contesting from Shillong and Agatha Sangma from Tura) will win with flying colours.”

The verdict on the fate of the 10 candidates contesting from two seats in Meghalaya – namely the Shillong Parliamentary seat and the Tura Parliamentary seat will be out tomorrow once the result for the Lok Sabha elections are declared. Altogether six candidates are contested from the Shillong seat while Tura has the candidatures of the four. In this battle of the Titans heavyweights Dr M Ampareen Lyngdoh, who never lost any election is contesting from NPP ticket against Meghalaya Pradesh Congress committee President and the incumbent Shillong MP Vincent H Pala.

The electoral hype created due to the entry of the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) will have its own impact.

The regionalism shown by the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) will bring the regional flavour while independents have their own advantage here for the Shillong Parliamentary seat.

The much hyped Tura Parliamentary seat has always been the bastion of Late PA Sangma and his family but the incumbent Tura MP Agatha Sangma has tough competitors against her with sitting Congress Legislators and the opposition Chief Whip Saleng Sangma and former Sports and Youth Affairs Minister and the younger brother of Dr Mukul Sangma, the former Chief Minister of Meghalaya Zenith M Sangma.
