At least 5 people have been reportedly killed and several others have been injured so far in Assam due to Cyclone Remal.
In response to the threat posed by Cyclone Remal and the continuous downpour for the last three days in Assam, authorities in Tinsukia have suspended all boat and ferry services and prohibited swimming, fishing, and playing in the rivers and water bodies as a precautionary measure.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Remal is moving northwards and is expected to bring heavy winds and heavy rainfall over Assam including Tinsukia and neighbouring districts today.
The office of the Tinsukia District Commissioner has taken the decision in view of the serious nature of the situation and to prevent loss of life and property.
However, this suspension excludes relief and rescue operations and essential services.
The cyclone has wreaked havoc across Assam, leading to severe damage, loss of life, and widespread disruption.
At least 5 people have been reportedly killed and several others have been injured so far.
Road communication between Dima Hasao and Cachar was affected by restrictions imposed on traffic in the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch.
