At least 5 people have been reportedly killed and several others have been injured so far in Assam due to Cyclone Remal.

In response to the threat posed by Cyclone Remal and the continuous downpour for the last three days in Assam, authorities in Tinsukia have suspended all boat and ferry services and prohibited swimming, fishing, and playing in the rivers and water bodies as a precautionary measure.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Remal is moving northwards and is expected to bring heavy winds and heavy rainfall over Assam including Tinsukia and neighbouring districts today.

The office of the Tinsukia District Commissioner has taken the decision in view of the serious nature of the situation and to prevent loss of life and property.

However, this suspension excludes relief and rescue operations and essential services.

The cyclone has wreaked havoc across Assam, leading to severe damage, loss of life, and widespread disruption.

At least 5 people have been reportedly killed and several others have been injured so far.

Road communication between Dima Hasao and Cachar was affected by restrictions imposed on traffic in the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch.

Meanwhile, a red alert has been issued in Nagaon, Hojai, West Karbi Anglong, East Karbi Anglomng, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Dima Ahsaoa, Cachar and Hailakandi districts of Assam in the wake of cyclone Remal.

Schools and other educational institutions are closed in these 10 districts today.
As the water level of the Brahmaputra River continues to rise because of Cyclone Remal, ferry services between Jorhat and Majuli have also been suspended.
