The Bagetar Gorkha Youth Club of Haflong on Thursday organised a Table Tennis Tournament to create awareness about drug abuse and road safety.

A number of prominent figures, including Mayank Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Dima Hasao, Joshringdao Phonglo, Advisor of the Blue Hills Society, Manpreet Bodo, President of the Blue Hills Society, Notroson Bodo, President of the Semicolon Society, and Arjun Ghimire, President VDC, Upper Bagetar, participated in the awareness campaign.

Due to rising cases of road accidents and drugs consumption by youths in Dima Hasao, several organizations have launched a campaign in recent weeks to get young people involved in sports.

Speaking at the event, SP Mayank Kumar appreciated the initiative of Bagetar Gorkha Youth Club for initiating an awareness campaign through sports.

“Young people are crucial because they will decide our future. Thus, youngsters play a critical role in economic development. No one can stop India from becoming a more powerful nation if we channel the energy of the youth in the right direction. And it will be a failure for our nation if we do not properly utilize the enthusiasm of the youth.”

“There are many young people in India now, and if they all work hard and in an optimistic way, after a few years our country will be a superpower,” he added.
