Meghalaya: UDP criticizes handling of CUET by NTA and NEHU, demands strict action

The UDP emphasized the need for strict action against those responsible for the flaws, which have caused unnecessary stress and confusion among students.

The United Democratic Party (UDP) in Meghalaya has expressed serious concerns over the handling of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the authorities of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).

The UDP criticized the lack of adequate preparation for the examination and emphasized the need for strict action against those responsible for the flaws, which have caused unnecessary stress and confusion among students.

Speaking to media, UDP vice president Allantry F Dkhar said, “CUET is overseen by the NTA, and the state government’s minimal role is to treat the matter professionally by following the advisory. If things go like this at the very first attempt, it does not bode well for the state’s youths who want to pursue further studies.”

“This is a major change and the NTA along with the University authorities did not prepare well. Many problems arose. I was told that the exam ended at 9:30 pm and that calls for serious action on the part of the authorities who oversee CUET,” said Dkhar.

He said that it is important to put the necessary pressure on the right authorities to ensure that nothing of this recurs in future.

The CUET exam was conducted at NEHU on May 15.

Earlier, the Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council wrote a letter to state Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma requesting him to resolve the issue encountered by the students of the state who are appearing for CUET.

The HYC demanded a proper inquiry regarding the chaotic handling of CUET exam.
