Dorjee Neema, Headmaster of Government Upper Primary School at Lumpo village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district is a man with a mission.

At above 10,000 feet, in the remote Lumpo village, 170 kms away from Tawamg, Neema with his diligent students are creating awareness on the catastrophic consequences of using plastic, collecting and recycling plastic to keep the environment safe.

“Plastic waste is increasing everywhere. Even in these remote villages use of plastic would undoubtedly inflict harmful impact on environment. Along with my students, we visit nearby villages to create awareness on plastic wastes and its management,” Neema said.

His persistent efforts got wings when Dehla, an elderly woman from the village brought a bundle of plastic to the school.

Dorjee took his students on an educational tour to Jhamtse Gatsal Children’s Community, at Lhou village where plastic waste recycling plant is installed.

The students were fascinated to see the colourful items like small flower pots, colourful racks, trays and plates being made from recycled plastics. Since then they got inspired and willingly joined the mission.

The students have become so conscious that the boarders when they go for their morning walk collects plastic wastes on their way. When students come back after their holidays they bring plastic wastes from their houses.
