Kyrmen Shylla further emphasized that the political parties and politicians should not fool the people by making false promises which cannot be fulfilled.
Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Kyrmen Shylla has expressed concern over the hate speech that was used during electioneering ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in the state.
He said that the political parties must have mutual respect for each other while campaigning during the elections.
Speaking to media, Kyrmen Shylla said, “I don’t consider them (opposition parties) as enemies, the opponent who contest the elections. Even if they (opposition) are our enemies, we should respect them. We should not treat them bad or speak evil about them. Respecting each other is very important, not only the candidates but also the public and all the leaders”
Kyrmen Shylla further emphasized that the political parties and politicians should not fool the people by making false promises which cannot be fulfilled.
He said, “All the parties have tried their best and even aggressively. We have seen some parties start blaming each other and the saddest part is telling something which is not correct to the public just to get the sympathy, just to get votes, so that they will win the elections. But in the end nobody can prove whatever they have spoken is true or the promises they made can be fulfilled”
It is to be mentioned here that polling for the two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya took place in a single phase on April 19, as part of the first phase of the Lok Sabha election 2024, which was held in 15 Parliamentary constituencies out of a total of 25 Parliamentary constituencies in the Northeastern region of India.
