Lok Sabha Polls- Assam: Nagaon Cong candidate Pradyot Bordoloi wanted to join BJP, reveals Minister Pijush Hazarika

First Published: 22nd April, 2024 20:54 IST

Assam cabinet minister Pijush Hazarika said that Pradyot Bordoloi had approached Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP's central leadership expressing his desire to join the saffron party.

With just 3 days to go for the voting for the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam, the war of words between the BJP and Congress has escalated further.
In a startling disclosure ahead of the voting day on April 26, Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika has dropped a bombshell.

Hazarika said that Congress candidate Pradyot Bordoloi was in touch with the BJP leadership and expressed his desire to join the saffron party. Pijush Hazarika maintained that it was the BJP leadership who did not allow Pradyot Bordoloi to join the BJP.

Pijush Hazarika said, “He can go with me to Maa Kamakhya temple and take a pledge. Why is he afraid to do so (to speak the truth)? I am telling again that Pradyot Bordoloi wanted to join BJP. I will tell it 100 times. He had met the Chief Minister in Delhi, also met our leaders in Delhi. If he has the moral courage and he is so true and honest, then he should go to the Maa Kamakhya temple and swear that he has not done so. I am challenging him repeatedly, but why is he saying no. Why is he saying that he will not go to the Kamakhya temple? So something is wrong somewhere. We did not allow him to join, we did not allow it to happen.”

Hazarika also predicted a setback for Pradyot Bordoloi in the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat this time and accused the Congress leader of starting coal syndicates in Assam.

The Assam cabinet minister said, “The person who started coal syndicate in Assam is Pradyot Bordoloi himself. The coal syndicate is in his home constituency Margherita, he had begun the coal syndicate. He was rejected there (Margherita) and he came here (Nagaon). Pradyot Bordoloi lost by a margin of 50000-60000 votes twice in Margherita and so he had to come to Nagaon. On the request of Rockybul Hussain, the Muslim population had voted in favour of Pradyot Bordoloi, but this time Muslim people will not vote for him. His loss is certain.”

However, when Pradyot Bordoloi was asked about what he has to say on Pijush Hazarika’s comments, the Nagaon Congress Lok Sabha MP said, “I do not have to answer anything about this. I am not here to answer about all these nonsense things. Why do you (journalists) keep on asking me about Pijush Hazarika? My main opponent (in the elections) will be BJP, they have only ‘triggered’ the AIUDF to field a candidate with the intention of creating a vote division.”
