Elections 2024: Voting officially ends in 15 LS seats, Arunachal and Sikkim Assembly elections

Polling was by and large peaceful in the region barring a few incidents of violence in Manipur.

Voting officially come to an end at 5 PM for election in 15 Lok Sabha constituencies in the North East as well as for the Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim.

It has been a day of brisk polling in most parts of the region barring Eastern Nagaland and Kangpokpi district of Manipur.

There was no voting at all in Eastern Nagaland, with the ENPO giving a call to people to abstain from exercising their franchise. Thin voters’ participation was also witnessed in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district where several CSOs had urged people to boycott polling in protest against the months of violence in the strife-torn state.

Polling was by and large peaceful in the region barring a few incidents of violence in Manipur.
As per reports, around 6 polling stations witnessed disturbances while there was a reported shootout outside a polling station in Bishnupur district.

Among the 15 Lok Sabha seats to have undergone polling today, 5 are in Assam, 2 seats each in Arunachal, Meghalaya and not to forget Manipur where, besides the polling for the inner seat, voting was also held for 15 Assembly segments for the outer seat. Polling was also held for 1 seat each in Sikkim, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland.

As per information shared by the Election Commission, the voting percentage till 7 PM are as follows-
Assam- 71.38%
Arunachal Pradesh- 65.46%
Manipur- 68.62%
Meghalaya- 70.26%
Mizoram- 54.18%
Nagaland- 56.77%
Sikkim- 68.06%
Tripura- 79.90%
