Gauhati HC says 2-time Kokrajhar MP Naba Sarania’s ST-Plains certificate is invalid

Following this order, Naba Sarania will not be able to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha polls from the Kokrajhar, which is an ST seat.

In a big setback to the incumbent Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Sarania ahead of polls, the Gauhati High Court has declared his Scheduled Tribe- Plains certificate invalid.

Following this order, Naba Sarania will not be able to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha polls from the Kokrajhar, which is an ST seat.

It may be mentioned here that Sarania was elected to the Lok Sabha twice from the Kokrajhar seat.

A plea was filed at the High Court challenging against an order by the division bench of Gauhati High court that had set aside an interim order by a single bench, which suspended an order passed by State Level Caste Scrutiny Committee which opined that Sarania does not belong to the ST Plains community.
