Meghalaya CM confident of party’s victory in both LS seats

The public will vote for the NPP for the development initiatives undertaken by it in the state in the last 6 years, said CM Sangma.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has expressed unwavering confidence in the possibilities of his party, the National People’s Party (NPP), securing victories in both Lok Sabha constituencies in the state–Tura and Shillong in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 19.
Addressing a gathering of party supporters during an election campaign for party Tura candidate Agatha Sangma yesterday, CM Sangma said that the public will vote for the NPP for the development initiatives undertaken by it in the state in the last 6 years.
Agatha Sangma is the sister of CM Conrad Sangma and the incumbent MP of Tura.
“We are very confident of winning both the Lok Sabha seats in the state this time. The impact of the NPP’s work over the last 6 years is evident, particularly in Garo Hills, and the public would vote for the NPP based on the development works made,” said CM Sangma.
“The opposition is currently fragmented with leaders from the Congress party dispersing into other parties. Due to the splintered opposition, I believe our MPs will win by a significant margin,” he added.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has further urged the people to come forward and support NPP candidates.
While Agatha Sangma is contesting from the Tura Parliamentary seat, Cabinet Minister and a 5-time MLA from the East Shillong Legislative Assembly Constituency, Ampareen Lyngdoh is contesting from the Shillong Parliamentary seat.
Agatha Sangma is likely to face a keen contest from TMC candidate Zenith Sangma, brother of former Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma and Saleng A Sangma of the Congress, and sitting MLA from Gambegre.
Ampareen Lyngdoh is up against Congress candidate and incumbent Shillong MP Vincent Pala and an independent candidates, Peter Shallam, an advocate, and Professor Lakhon Kma of Northeast Hill University (NEHU).
The voting for the Lok Sabha election for the two parliamentary seats in Meghalaya is scheduled for April 19th.
The results will be declared on June 4.
