LS Election 2024-Meghalaya: NPP will replace the Congress, says NPP’s Shillong candidate Ampareen Lyngdoh

Ampareen Lyngdoh feels that the voters this time will also give priority on the personality of the contesting candidates.

The National People’s Party (NPP) will replace the Congress in Meghalaya. This is what cabinet minister and NPP candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat Ampareen Lyngdoh predicts just 4 days ahead of the first phase of the parliamentary elections.

In fact, Lyngdoh went on to say that the grand old party has already sunk in Meghalaya.

A 5-time MLA from the East Shillong Legislative Assembly Constituency, Ampareen Lyngdoh said, “In our state Congress has already sunk. Earlier I too was a member of the Congress, we worked together so that our candidate wins. But the Congress is in problem in our state. In 2019, when the present MP won (Vincent Pala) we were around 18-20 MLAs that time but now it is only 5. We are fighting the elections but we are not looking at what other parties are doing. We are doing our own job. People also know that earlier I was a member of the Congress, and why I exited, that narrative is known to them (people). I think there is no need to rewind what happened.”

Lyngdoh feels that the voters this time will also give priority on the personality of the contesting candidates.

“There is low party politics in our state, the focus is more on individual personality and people support on this basis. They see who has done what and vote accordingly,” Ampareen Lyngdoh said.

The NPP candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha seat also said that justice for all is the NPP’s main motto on the basis of which the party is reaching out to the voters.

“Our party has commanded me saying that I have done a lot of works in my constituency during my 5-term stint as an MLA. I was urged to sacrifice for the NPP and come forward to fight the MP elections and I am working with this idea in my mind. You can ask the people as to who among the 6 candidates (in fray from Shillong) have they seen going to the nook and corners of the constituency. At this juncture I can say that the NPP will replace the Congress in the state. It is very difficult to get 28 MLAs, NPP has the largest number of MLAs.

Secular, non-communal, fair and square justice for all is or biggest strength and with this ideology we will serve the people,” Ampareen Lyngdoh further said.

Ampareen Lyngdoh had won Assembly bypolls in 2008 as UDP candidate and 2009 as Congress candidate and elections in 2013, 2018 as Congress candiate and 2023 as NPP candidate.
