Massive search operations on in search of missing 5 persons in Dikhow river; Navy divers called in from Vizag to help rescue operations

After the ill-fated incident that took place at Sivasagar’s Gaurisagar in Assam on Saturday.

5 members of a family went missing after the vehicle they were travelling in fell into Dikhow river, massive search operations have been conducted since late Saturday night and yet there is no sign of the missing family’s whereabouts.

The rescue operation is being conducted by various agencies like the NDRF, SDRF, Assam Police and specially trained deep divers from the 21 Para Special Forces along with army personnel are leaving no stone unturned to rescue the ill-fated car and its occupants.

10 teams have already been deployed since 5am this morning to rescue the missing family.

All the 5 people who are suspected to be dead have been identified as Haren Bora, his wife Phunu Bora, daughters Chimpi Bora, Munmi Bora and Haren Bora’s mother Panou Bora.

As per reports, the incident occurred at around 7 pm on Saturday. It has been doubted that the accident took place when the vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the embankment of river Dikhow after losing control and fell into the river.

Witnesses of the accident said that after the car crashed into the river, the family had cried for help. All present tried their best to break the glass to bring out those trapped inside, but all in vain, after which the car floated for around 200m and gradually drowned.

Meanwhile, a 10 member diving team of the Indian Navy are on their way to the accident spot at Gaurisagar in Assam’s Sivsagar district. The Naval diving team is being airlifted from the Eastern Naval Command headquarters in Visakhapatnam.

The Navy has been pressed into operation, following an urgent SOS sent by the Assam Chief Secretary to the Ministry of Defence.
