The Chief Minister met with families severely impacted by the calamity and directed authorities to promptly assess property damage and provide immediate relief from the disaster relief fund.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday visited the storm-affected areas of Lembutali, a bordering area within the Kamalasagar assembly constituency in Sepahijala district.

The region has been significantly affected by the fierce north-westerlies that occurred during the overnight period from Saturday to Sunday.

The havoc wreaked by the storms resulted in extensive damage, with nearly 800 houses affected, electric transmission lines severed, and trees uprooted across various districts of Tripura.

Tragically, two individuals lost their lives in Gomati district after being struck by lightning during the thunderstorms.

During his visit, the Chief Minister met with families severely impacted by the calamity and directed authorities to promptly assess property damage and provide immediate relief from the disaster relief fund.

According to the latest report from the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC), a total of 792 houses damaged during the heavy downpours and thunderstorms.

Among these, 62 were completely destroyed, 159 severely damaged, and 571 partially damaged.
Sepahijala and Khowai districts bore the brunt of the nor’westers, with relief efforts already underway.
An amount of Rs. 71.51 lakhs has been allocated for immediate relief, and seven families are currently being housed in a relief camp established at Teliamura in Khowai district.

Furthermore, vegetable farmers in areas like Kailashahar and adjoining regions of Dhalai district have reported significant losses in their crops due to the adverse weather conditions.

In addition to the damage caused by the thunderstorms, prolonged power outages have been observed in various parts of the state, further exacerbating the challenges faced by residents in the aftermath of the severe weather events.
