This is the third time he has left SDF and joined SKM
With just a few days left for the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, the political landscape in Sikkim is fast changing.
Significantly, the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) is witnessing the resignations of leaders who have been denied tickets to fight the elections.
The SDF suffered a big blow yesterday, after the former Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, and a founder member of the party K.N. Topgay (Bhutia), quit the party after being disappointed over not getting a party ticket to contest the elections.
He was seeking a ticket to contest from the Gangtok constituency.
Soon after quitting the party, Topgay joined Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-led Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM).
This is the third time he has left SDF and joined SKM.
Topgay joined the SDF in 2004. In 2014, he joined SKM after being denied a ticket to contest the assembly elections.
He has served as Mayor in the Gangtok Municipal Corporation from 2010-2015.
Later in 2019, he resigned from SKM and joined SDF again.
Voting for the 32-member Sikkim Assembly will be held on April 19 and counting will take place on June 2.
