Arunachal: 3 arrested in connection with Longding poll violence, situation continues to be tense

As many as three persons have been arrested in connection with the poll violence in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longing wherein Longding SP Dekio Gumja was injured after stones were thrown at security forces as supporters of the National People’s Party (NPP) clashed with them during the scrutiny of nomination papers yesterday.

A suo moto case has been registered in this regard at the Longding Police Station, but the situation continues to be tense in the area.

Police said that the case is being investigated from many different angles and video footage is being thoroughly analyzed to identify the perpetrators of the incident and apprehend them as soon as possible

Meanwhile, additional security forces have been deployed in the vulnerable areas of Longding town and its adjoining areas.

The condition of SP Dekio Gumja, who sustained injuries in the incident, is now stable.

Violence broke out in Longding after supporters of NPP clashed with security forces during the scrutiny of nominations.

Sources said that supporters of Gangdiap Wangsa, who had filed his nomination from the NPP party for the Pongchau Wakka legislative assembly constituency, started pelting stones at the carcade of his opponent BJP candidate, sitting MLA and minister Honchun Ngandam while he was moving out from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office.

SP Dekio Gumja was injured while trying to control the situation, after which security forces, who were on duty, fired in the air to disperse the crowd.

The administration has clamped Section 144 and issued certain prohibitory orders.
