Mizoram: Aizawl district administration gears up for polls to lone Lok Sabha seat

Total number of eligible voters in Aizawl district stands at 2,98,058 voters of which 1,53,080 are female and 1,34,843 are male.


The Aizawl district administration has geared up for the Lok Sabha election for the lone parliamentary seat in the state. District Electoral Officer (DEO) Nazuk Kumar briefed newspersons today about the arrangements being made and shared details about the voters.

The DEO informed that the total number of eligible voters in the Aizawl district stands at 2,98,058 voters (lakh) of which 1,53,080 are female while the number of male voters in the district is 1,34,843.

DEO Nazuk Kumar said, “We have 12 ACs as well all know and the AC with maximum number of voters is Aizawl West-1 which has 30 thousand and 94 voters and AC with the lowest number of voters is Tuibol AC- 17, 899 voters.

Aizawl’s Zemabawk-VIII is the polling station with the highest number of electors- 1483 voters.
The number of young voters which comes under the age group of 18-21 is 10,131. Number of voters above 85 years is 1493 and PWD 778.

Aizawl district will have 321 polling stations for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, of which 257 are urban polling stations and 64 are rural polling stations.”

A Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) team will be formed in Aizawl district, and they will make a SVEEP Plan which will be disseminated to the public through various forms of campaigns, and social and other mass medias.

A special campaign will also be launched by the SVEEP team where voters turn out have been less in past elections, the DEO stated.

Nazuk Kumar further informed that EVMs and VVPATs have been stored in the District Strong room and that a separate Strong Room has been designated for each Assembly Segment.

For the upcoming Lok Sabha election, Aizawl district has 514 Ballot Units, 523 Control Units and 541 VVPATs.

Worth mentioning that there are a total of 1,276 polling stations (Urban – 525 & Rural – 751) for this year’s Lok Sabha election, which is an increase of 101 polling stations from Lok Sabha election of 2019.
Mizoram falling under the first phase will go to the poll on April 19, 2024. Mizoram has a total of 8,61,277 voters with 4,14,777 male electors, 4,41,520 female electors and 4,980 service electors.
