Assam sprinter Hima Das will be spearheading India’s medal hopes and take the centre stage at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta today as she begins her Asiad campaign.

Hima, who will be competing in the women’s 400 m qualification round has grown immensely in stature ever since her professional career began in 2016.

Her timing of 51.32 seconds at the Commonwealth Games puts her in sixth position amongst a group of world class athletes while her run in 51.46 seconds at Tampere made her the first Indian woman to win a gold at the IAAF World Junior Championships.

Meanwhile, Assam heartthrob and singing sensation Zubeen Garg will be in Jakarta to witness and cheer for Assam’s Hima Das during her event at the ongoing Asian Games.
