In what could be termed as yet another fallout of the NRC exercise in Assam, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura which is a coalition partner in the BJP-led government in Tripura has called for implementing an NRC like exercise in the state.
Speaking to Northeast Live during a programme organised to observe the Twipraland Statehood Demand Day at Kumlung near Agartala, IPFT leader Mevar Kumar Jamatia said that the party strongly supports an NRC like exercise since the state bordering Bangladesh is battling infiltration woes.
Meanwhile, Asom Gana Parishad president Atul Bora who was in Tripura to attend the programme said the Centre must come forward to examine the pros and cons to implement the mega exercise in Tripura.
The AGP president added that the process should be initiated at the earliest. On the occasion, the IPFT also reiterated its demand for a separate Twipraland.
